Who we are
FTL Multiplayer is a free fan project run by the FTL Multiplayer project.
You can play without an account
Nothing on this site is needed to download or play the game. An account only exists if you sign in with Discord, and its only use today is emails about new releases and project news.
What we get when you sign in with Discord
- Your Discord user ID, so we recognise you next time.
- Your Discord display name and avatar.
- Your email address, only if Discord says it is verified.
We never see your Discord password. Discord also hands sites a key that lets them act on your behalf; we throw it away instead of storing it. Your name, avatar and email are refreshed from Discord each time you sign in. If Discord stops reporting a verified email, we delete the address we had and stop any emails to it.
Release emails
We only email you about releases if you tick the box or press the button that says so. It is off unless you choose it. When you opt in or out we record when, which address, where you did it, and the exact words you agreed to, which are currently:
Email me when a new version of FTL Multiplayer is released, and with occasional project news. I'm 16 or older, and I can unsubscribe at any time.
You can stop at any time from your account page. You must be 16 or older to opt in.
When you play
The match server receives your IP address, which it needs to send you the game, and the name you type in-game. After each match it writes a result and a replay of every order given to files on the server: the names typed, the ships flown, the outcome and some match statistics. Those files are deleted after 14 days. The server's own operational log also records typed names and when matches start and end; it is trimmed when it grows too large rather than on a fixed schedule. None of this is linked to a website account.
Cookies
We use no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. The only cookies are ones the site needs to work: one that keeps you signed in (for up to 30 days), short-lived security cookies used while you sign in with Discord, and a ten-minute cookie that carries your email choice through the Discord sign-in.
Where it is kept
- The website runs on Vercel.
- Accounts and email choices are stored in a Neon Postgres database in the United States.
- The match server runs on Google Cloud in Belgium.
- Downloads are served by GitHub, under GitHub's own privacy policy.
How long, and your rights
We keep your account and its email history until you delete it. You can delete everything from your account page at any time, with no request needed. To correct your name, avatar or email, change them on Discord and sign in again. You can also ask us for a copy of your data, object to how we use it, or complain to your local data protection authority.
